ART Night
Last night was our ART Night at Greeley Transitional! The kids absolutely loved it and everyone was eager to know when we would be coming back. In the spirit of Spring and new beginnings, we all painted clay flower pots. We left a big bag of potting soil and plenty of garden seeds so that tomorrow during Group Therapy, everyone will be able to plant their seeds in their specific pot! Our next ART Night is on July 22 and we hope people can join us there!
Refugee Mural Project
The Refugee Mural Project was a huge success! Looking at the mural we painted, the black images are symbolic of what represents each person who helped. Some students picked to write their native language, some took symbols from their village, some took important cultural activities (i.e. the fishing boat). It was so rewarding to watch everyone out there having a great time and opening up about their personal journeys. The art kits were a huge hit, everyone was excited to take one, two, or three! Due to budget cuts in Greeley, refugee students are losing some important services so it was great that we could play a small part in this!
International Women’s Day
Color Our World joined an array of local organizations supporting the University of Northern Colorado’s celebration of International Women’s Day on March 7th. The event featured booths set up by local organizations promoting education and the support of women. Students, faculty, and community members gathered after to view the screening of Girl Rising. The event was a huge success, and we had lots of people interested in COW, and supporting our mission!
“Children in Need” Event
The distribution on Saturday, February 15, 2014 was a huge success! Thanks to the efforts of five CSU students–plus board members Brian and Meagan!–we helped serve over 80 families with the gift of art. This number is more than double the number of attendees from the same event last year!
In participating in the “Children in Need” Event, by Homeless Gear, COW joined many critical organizations that provide much-needed services in a single location at “The Mathews House” in Fort Collins, Colorado. In addition to participating in art activities and receiving art kits, participants also received free eye exams, health screenings, pet food, haircuts, books, clothes, legal advice, backpacks, nutrition support, enrollment in Early Childhood, referrals to host’s programming services, and even balloon animals and face-painting!
